Community - Community Issues
Welcome to The Polished Beat, our weekly wrap-up of all the newsworthy happenings throughout the city. With our hectic schedules during this holiday season, it’s tough to keep up with all the news. Here’s what’s going on in Cleveland.

County government is changing this year. The Issue 6 success in the November election assured that it would. Want to have input on the change. Sign up with the county to become a volunteer and give your opinion on what needs to stay and go with the new government. It’s our future at stake. Why not take part in it? http://charter.cuyahogacounty.us/

Mayor Frank Jackson was sworn in for his second term as Cleveland mayor yesterday. He said improving the schools and preparing young people for the jobs of tomorrow takes a back seat to the economy.Preparing young people for future jobs should be of as much importance to us as improving this economy. Not being prepared for the decline of manufacturing jobs and other blue collar jobs in Ohio. Here’s hoping that the mayor and other city leaders do give education the attention that it deserves in his second term. http://bit.ly/8CRBQ4

The Browns closed the season on a four game winning streak to bring his first year record with the team to 5-11. Will that strong finish be enough to save his job? Mike Holmgren is known to have a soft spot for first year head coaches, but the prevailing sentiment is that his job is all but gone. After one year, we think he should get another chance, but we’re not writing the checks. http://bit.ly/6qhn2R

A new twist to the old leader-young leader debate. Older black politicians in Alabama are refusing to support a 40something running for governor out of fear that it will hurt their clout. It’s a theme that seems to be appearing all over the country after the election of President Obama. Well, it was there prior to his election, but his ascendancy has exacerbated the issue. Is there jealousy here, or does the old guard really have the best interests of their party and constituents in mind? http://bit.ly/8Fww6V
